Sports for Singapore

The world seems to be crumbling.. First it was Bearsterns and now we have Lehman.. and now we're hearing news about AIG doing badly or something.. What's going on?!? Are we all going to die soon?

Kudos to our 2 paralympians for winning medals! Actually, the results that our paralympians produced can also be produced by the ordinary Olympians, or Singapore sportsmen as a whole for that matter.. It's just that in Singapore, the common believe is that we cannot do well in sports and many do not see a need to pursue sports for Singapore. In actual fact, I do believe that there's much more potential lying in Singapore but it's this stupid belief that has hindered progress for the nation. Adults and parents are always stereotyping Singapore as 'a lousy sporting nation' and telling the next generation that it doesn't pay to be a sportsman. This misconception gets passed on and on and on and that's probably why we always have to depend only on the few plucky individuals who are courageous and perhaps lucky enough to fly the Singapore flag high.

What many love to blame:
  1. Population. Jamaica has a population of 2,804,332 and we have like 4,588,600 (according to wiki). Population Problem? I don't think so..
  2. Genes. Many claim that Asians are weaker thus generally weaker because we have inferior genes and blah blah blah.. Bullshit! So why is it that Liu Xiang was able to win the 110m hurdles 4 years ago? In the very-super-distant-past Olympics, the Koreans and the Japanese have dominated the long distance events. Why is it that Asian countries can be in the top 10 medal tally with China leading this year?!?
  3. No future. If sports had no future in this world, why then did the world came upon the idea of honouring the best of athletes with the Olympics?

I can blabber on and on but I perhaps i shouldn't.. hahahaha.. These lousy ideas and stereotyped opinions that many many adults carry should be eradicated! In Germany, according to Daniel, if you get like all Bs for your school subjects but if you're really good in your sports, you get your grades pushed up to As.. Nice! Hopefully Singapore can implement that hahaahaha!
